Welcome!

In today’s world, students must prepare themselves for a wide range of college and work opportunities. For our students who want to lead a happy life and enjoy the good things the world has to offer, all of our students will certainly need a quality education. This year I am working with our junior high students as we learn about Computer Programming. Students in my “Coding” class will be writing and creating programs using the Python programming language. Students will also learn Block style programming for Android Phones and Tablets using the online MIT App Inventor system.

In other various courses I am teaching, students will learn a wide range of technology applications such as MS-Word, MS-Excel, hardware and software concepts along with basic video editing and production. Students will be introduced to 3D design and 3D Printing. All students in my classes will have ample opportunity to learn and practice 21st Century Skills throughout the semester and year.

Week 9 (October 19, 2015)

6th Computer Science

Students worked on a couple of more complex programs this week.  Things did not go as smoothly as I would have liked and we did not progress as far as I had hoped.  This week coming is our last week of Python programming.  Our challenge this coming week is to complete 5 programming assignments from a list of 10.  By providing students with choice of programming assignments, effort and quality will remain high to the end.   Stay tuned for samples of the work they will do this coming week.

8th Grade Audio/Video

Working with "Pinnacle Studio 16" turned out to be a bit more challenging than expected for most students due to all the bells and whistles built into the program.  The Vacation Video they are working on still needs background music and their projects need to made into a movie file.  Students will complete a self-evaluation form on their work before uploading the videos to Youtube.  Final assessment and grading by me will be done when I receive an email from each student with the Internet link to the "Vacation Video" they created.  Stay tuned for "Oscar Award Winning" samples.

Week 8 (October 12, 2015)

This week, 6th graders continue working with Python Programming.  Working with the "Turtle Tool" student did more experimentation with yet another more complex program.  As student continue to type in program code, they are getting much better at working out the planted Syntax Errors.  While experimenting with program parameters and colors, students get to see what they are able to create through their programming efforts.

This coming week, students are working on a "Pizza Ordering" calculator.  By the time they are done, they will learn how Cost and Tax calculations are programmed using Python.

8th Grade Audio/Video students are working on a Vacation Video.  Stay tuned to view their great work which will be available soon.

Week 7 (October 5, 2015)

This past week was very productive.

6th graders continue with with coding using the Python Programming Language.  They learned how to work with the Python "Turtle Tool" allowing them to draw squares and circles.  Students are having fun as they learn to code, test and debug their programs.  This week, they will continue working with the "Turtle Tool" as their programming exercises become more sophisticated.

8th Graders in Audio/Video are in the middle of creating a vacation video.  Last week they learned to work with Pinnacle Studio 16 as they had to take their green screen pictures and process them with pictures from 5 different countries and tourist attractions.  This coming week, they will be using PowerPoint as they take their vacation pictures and combine them with facts and information relating to the countries and tourist attractions they visited.  They will complete their project in Pinnacle Studio as they add titles, credit and music to their video.

Stay tuned next week to check out their completed videos.

Have a safe and blessed week.

Week 6 (September 28, 2015)

This week, our Audio/Video class began their "Travel Log" video.  They used the Internet this week to gather facts about 5 different countries and tourist attractions to visit.  They also took pictures in front of a green screen.  These pictures will be used in learning about Pinnacle Studio and Chroma Key processing.   Once they have placed themselves in a photo of their vacation spots, they will create a video presentation with facts and information using PowerPoint.  The PowerPoint will be converted to a video and completed with Pinnacle Studio.  Titles, Ending Credits and Music will be added.  By the end of this week, I will have some fine vacation videos to showcase.

Our 6th Graders spent the week learning about Python Programming.  As students over came the initial challenges of Uploading and Download files from their Google Drive, the assignments themselves eventually began to work themselves out.  By this coming Friday, I hope students know enough about the first few programming instructions, they will be able to write their own program. Keep in touch to see how it all turns out.
