In today’s world, students must prepare themselves for a wide range of college and work opportunities. For our students who want to lead a happy life and enjoy the good things the world has to offer, all of our students will certainly need a quality education. This year I am working with our junior high students as we learn about Computer Programming. Students in my “Coding” class will be writing and creating programs using the Python programming language. Students will also learn Block style programming for Android Phones and Tablets using the online MIT App Inventor system.

In other various courses I am teaching, students will learn a wide range of technology applications such as MS-Word, MS-Excel, hardware and software concepts along with basic video editing and production. Students will be introduced to 3D design and 3D Printing. All students in my classes will have ample opportunity to learn and practice 21st Century Skills throughout the semester and year.

Our Summer Coding Course is History

When all is settled and done, our video of work is completed and online.  Students did a great job of taking care of everything that was asked of them,  I could not have hoped for a better group of kids.

This video is a comprehensive overview of most the work completed by our students.  From writing assignments to class discussions, from online quizzes and projects, to the creation of Android apps using MIT App Inventor, the students leave the course with a wide range of skills they can use anywhere.

Voting Apps Update

Students are wrapping up their Voting Apps and will complete their final week of training working on one last project.  Students have worked hard this summer on all the apps they created and are proud of what they have accomplished in the short time we had together.  A video is in the process of being created to showcase all their final products.  A few more videos have to be recorded and added so the showcase video is not complete yet.  Here is a sample of what has been done so far.

Voting App Progress

Students worked hard last week at setting up the three screens needed for their voting app. We hope to have the "Voting App" up and running by the end of this week.

In the mean time, here are a few pictures of apps created by our students while learning to use App Inventor.

Summer Session Update

This week was a busy week.  Students were completing and modifying the apps created for Pre-Kinder and Kinder students.  Students were asked to select any app they have created and are proud of, for the purpose of showcase.  Not all work has been pictured and videoed as of yet and a few more are needed to complete a video of sample work.

Students completed a "2 Part" exam as a mid-semester assessment consisting of a knowledge based test and a hands-on component consisting of an app to create.  All students did a great job of demonstrating knowledge, proficiency and confidence in their ability to create an app.

Next we we are moving on to the "Voting App" we have been waiting for.  Stay tuned and once again, a video of sample work will be available soon.
