In today’s world, students must prepare themselves for a wide range of college and work opportunities. All students want to lead a happy life and enjoy the good things the world has to offer. Our students will certainly be provided a quality education. This year I am working with our junior high students as they learn and master a wide range of 21st Century Skills.

In this year’s “Technology Applications” class, students will learn and master various topics associated with computers and technology.

Great Things are Always on the Horizan

Principles of Information Technology

Students will be completing our "Desktop Publishing" or "Graphic Design" Unit this week.  As I do with every class, one of the projects students create is a table with pictures of all the class members.  This particular project requires students to learn and master about 15 beginner, intermediate and advance features of Microsoft Word.  As always, students do a great job.  This coming week students will be completing a couple of tables for review and practice as they prepare for a formal assessment.  Here is a sampling of how the "Class Picture Projects" turned out.

Computer Science

Students just completed our "Sphiro Challenges".  We created videos of the Sphiros in action as programmed by the students.  The video will be complete and the challenge demonstrations will be available soon.  This week, students are programming in "MIT App Inventor" as they create apps for Android tables and phones.  There are 10 apps  to be created for this unit and samples of their work will be available for your viewing soon.

This past weekend, our TechnoPirates went to Somerset for this years' Robotic's Championship.  The TechnoPirates won the "PTC Robot Design" award.  Our team was full of spirit and we even shouted our team chant several times throughout the event.  The meet had us competing in 5 matches.  We came in third place overall in the rankings, and when one of the top two teams invited us to form an alliance with them for the championship round, we accepted the invitation.  The championship round was a two out of three match event.  With our alliance team, we won the first round and lost the second and final round.  Aside from the "Robot Design" award, we also were recognized for coming in 2nd place in the Championship event.  Thanks to Nicholas Ketron, our team mascot and his parents for the robot suit they made.  We are proud of our TechnoPirates for a job well done.  They deserve a lot of credit.
